Mike Silford

I have been working in the travel industry since 1977, starting my career working in my home town, Dunstable for a high street agency, Lunn Poly. Since then I have had a varied career in the industry including specialised tour operations such as sailing and scuba diving holidays around the world. My ethos in business has always been to listen to customers and really identify what you want from a holiday as we are all different. I want to find a holiday that fulfils your dreams and a holiday where you will come back and talk non-stop to your friends and family. Leading from the front I am instilling this same ethos throughout the Suitcase Travel team.

My favourite place is central and eastern Europe and particularly Hungary. This has led to my passion of river cruises visiting towns and cities that are not on the usual tourist track. Plus, river cruises are more relaxing than you may think, which is always a bonus.

My next planned adventure is a river cruise on the Rhine. I have done this before but there is always something new to discover on these trips!

Where do I every start with my bucket list? Even after 40 years in travel there is still so much to see and do! I want to see more of the inner USA and have been thinking of a fly drive to combine with a Mississippi river cruise. But, I have recently been inspired by a booking we made for one of our customers that is a fantastic fly drive to include the cowboy region of Black Hills in South Dakota – now I am confused!!

My top travel tip is to be flexible – always plan for delays and try not to get upset when things don’t go to plan. Remember you are on an adventure!
